Fall Forward

SEASONS CHANGE
HEMLINES CHANGE
HAIR COLOR CHANGES
THE NEW "blank" CHANGES

Our world is in perpetual movement.
Change.
Evolution.

Here at InHouse Productions, We are not only getting ready for a change of seasons, but we are embracing this change. We soon will be right in the middle of Fall. We are gearing up for yet another Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011.
This promises to be an exciting season, especially as the key shows will happen at Lincoln Center this year for the first time.
Even fashion show locations change.

Amy and Meagan will be busy catching as many collections as time and energy will allow. While Andrea and I, will be backstage, creating and assisting on what will be some of next years most anticipated hair and makeup looks and trends.

Fall is also a time of harvest. A time to reap the benefit of hard work and labour. InHouse productions has several BIG stories hitting the new stands in late September, for both domestic and international publications.
We are also busy planning several shoots that are not only fashion forward, but socially and politically relevant. More to come later.......

tips from my kit :
BEAUTY PURGE.
I have often heard Amy and other stylist suggest to rid your closets and spaces of clutter. The common thought is, " If you haven't worn it in the past 12 months, get rid of it, donate it, regift it, repurpose it.
You get the picture.
The same holds true of your cosmetic/skin care collections. I an urging you to go thru all of your makeup, and skin care. If you haven't used a product in the past 12 months, toss it. Especially creams. Creams, generally speaking, have a 24 month shelf life. Anything past 24 months the product becomes less effective. Anything without moisture (powders, eyeshadows) can be kept much longer.
Without emotion, without sentiment, go thru it all. If you are holding onto an old discontinued light blue shadow... RELEASE IT. Frosted lipsticks..... RELEASE THEM. Hint. Cosmetic companies discontinue products for a reason.
Once you have a stack of products to be set free, give them to a community theater, or your neighborhood school's drama club. Some charities like the Red Cross will accept sample and travel sizes of products to help with areas hit by natural disasters. I gave a shopping bag of samples to the Haitian relief efforts.
Releasing unwanted product will not only make you feel wonderful, but will create space for new and exciting products for our ever evolving lives and needs.
Look forward to our Fashion Week Review and more tips!!!!!!

Speedy Gonzalas is the inHouse Mascot

So many ideas, so many clothes, so much makeup, so much (fake:) hair, so little time! When there is an entire team of creative people, sometimes, there is too many "cooks in the kitchen". Choosing the right people to create the right shot can often be tricky, but when you get it right, well, it just works.

When there is so many elements involved in making a photo shoot successful, it can definitely be overwhelming. It is almost magical when a group of talented and successful people can come together and really mesh their creative energy. Meeting inHouse was that magical moment for me.

Having years of styling under my belt, it kind of became "the norm" for eight looks to take ALL day. And then came inHouse. I truly did not think it was possible to shoot a full spread, add on two more looks for fun, and then have time to return almost half the clothing before the end of the day. I managed to squeeze in lunch and dinner somewhere as well! Every client we have ever brought in is almost in awe of the precise work that can come out of such a quick and simple day!

Meagan (Our awesome photog) has to be the most efficient person I have ever met in my life. She is not only sure of what she shoots, she does it in such a short time you almost can't believe the perfect shot is floating around in her camera. A quick genius? I'll take that! Andrea (fab hair) and Gregg (superb make-up) work simultaneously to get a new look for almost every shot!!! Don't believe me? Just take a look at these amazing shots done in less then seven hours. Yes, that is hair, makeup, set design, styling and photography. New assistants never believe me until they see it for themselves:)

The key to getting such great shots so efficiently is truly understand what the others are after, creatively that is, and meshing your ideas for the best shot. Respect for the others craft is key. I don't claim to be a photographer, hair or makeup person, but I certainly know what will work with my styling. Making suggestions and receiving them is what keeps our team ticking and working so seamlessly together!

The greatest compliment inHouse ever received is that we are "mind readers". There is nothing black and white about doing a photo shoot. There is a huge gray area that lays between the client and the creative team and it is our job to fill in the picture. Taking the client's idea and expanding upon it for the best possible result is the real talent behind inHouse. We may not be able to guess what number you are thinking, but we can definitely take your photo shoot idea to the next level!!!!

Caribbean Fashion Week 2010

When I was asked to be the lead hairstylist for Caribbean fashion week 2010 it was truly a dream come true and had
special meaning to me as I was returning home to Jamaica, the island of my birth. As well as working with some of the top models from the C
aribbean ,including l Jaunel McKenzie ,
Sedene Blake, Jeneil Williams, Kimanee Wilson, and many more .
The challenge for me was going to be how to turn out amazing hair in the Caribbean. Right away I knew what tools
I wanted to use to help me with the different hair textures and the climate. T-3 ,I placed a call to Jen Gear of Gear Communications and was pleasantly surprised when she agreed to be my sponsor for this event. One of the main tool that they carry is the new and improved mane tamer flat iron which can be used on both wet and dry hair and was the star backstage it did not disappoint. It was
the perfect tool.
